Pregnancy Boom

Pregnancy Boom

Pregnancy boom is about a raise in the teenage pregnancies in one school district. Seventeen girls in Gloucester High School is pregnant and that is four times higher in previous years. Some people like to blame movies for this and others blame the school. The school began looking into the matter when a large number of girl went to the school clinic to find out if they were pregnant or not. Some of the girls were upset that they were not pregnant and the ones that were pregnant were happy. The school principal was questioning the girls and they confessed to make a pact to get pregnant and raise their babies together. The school is trying to decide whether or not to make birth control easier to get a hold of or not. The school clinic already started prescribing birth control pills without the parent’s permission to make it easier to get it. The girls would have to travel 20 miles to get it otherwise.

I don’t really think it should be any of the schools business whether the girl made a pact or not. All the school is responsible for is getting the information out there. There is also the hippa law in Illinois(I don’t know about the other states) that any medical provider can’t discuss this issue or give out names of the girls. I don’t believe that there is anything else the school can do. The parents should be the ones responsible for their kids decisions. The school is trying to help the girls that don’t want to get pregnant, but what are/can they do about the girls that want to get pregnant?? They should provide something like letting the girls take care of an infant for a week and they be responsible for everything. That means getting a job, finding child care that they have to pay for, getting up in the middle of the night, and etc. I think its sad that the girls did this, but what can you do now??

I agree with you about its not the school's business. They try to get in on that and really their parents should be the ones talking to their kids about it.
